Kathleen Matthews, the Executive
Vice-President, Global Communications and Public Affairs Marriott International
and is tremendously excited about India and the India story. Her company plans
to set up a 100+ hotels in various business categories across the length and
breadth of India, over the next 4 years.
Many of these hotels will be in tier two and tier three cities. I spoke
to her about the jobs that will be created. Her company, she said, is working
with Indian trainers and the university system to train Indians in these
cities. She said that she was tremendously impressed by the ambition,
dedication, hard work and aspiration of young Indians in smaller towns. She
believes that the setting up of these hotels in second rung towns and cities,
will not just increase direct employment required by the hotels, but have a
spill over effect on the local economy as a whole. Kathleen Matthews said Brand
India for her meant vibrant, dynamic, optimistic, and full of aspiration.
